Product Description:

Alpha-lipoic acid is pale yellow powder crystal, almost odorless. The solubility in water is small, about 1 g/L (20°C). Soluble in 10% NaOH solution, soluble in aliphatic solvent. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform, ether. Lipoic acid is also called alpha-lipoic acid. Lipoic acid has a chiral center, so it has R and S configurations. Natural lipoic acid is a white crystal with only the R configuration, and only the R configuration of lipoic acid can be coconjugated to lysine residues by amide bonds to function as a coenzyme. Synthetic lipoic acid is a mixture of R and S configurations in equal proportions. It is a yellowish powder that is easily soluble in lipid solvents. It's a powerful antioxidant that, in addition to helping cells convert glucose into energy, detoxifies the body, fights skin irritation, and stabilizes blood sugar. Alpha-lipoic acid is known as a versatile antioxidant because it dissolves in water and fat and can penetrate tissues made mainly of fat and water, such as the nervous system and heart, thus protecting them from free radical damage. Lipoic acid also helps the body use vitamins E and C more efficiently, as well as other antioxidants like glutathione. This nutrient also makes B vitamins more efficient at converting proteins, carbohydrates and fats into energy.
